In less than an hour you can get to Florence, the pearl of art and culture of our entire peninsula, intense days in museums, churches, frescoes and gardens and then retreat back onto the hills for a new day full of fascinating experiences. Also in an hour you can reach BOLOGNA, famous for its arcades, its towers and gastronomy, RAVENNA, cradle of the famous Byzantine mosaics of the basilicas, with perhaps a stop in the centre of FAENZA ceramic art.

Medieval feasts
When Matilde di Canossa, in 1078, granted the Pisana Church the territory of Castrum Rivi, certainly not imagined that just over one hundred years later, on those lands, would be the "pass" between Tuscany and Romagna and also built one of the most historic splendor of today's Castel del Rio, their cradle and capital of the medium and high Santerno Valley. How can you not celebrate the period of the Renaissance in Castel del Rio? So twenty years or so, perhaps conscious of being close to a "new renaissance" the “Associazione Culturale Alidosiana” decided to "celebrate", reviving, the daily glories and joys of '400-'500, with the keen eye of someone who knows that there is no future without awareness (and conscience) of its past.
Local crafts
LE FONTANELLE is located along the ridge of the Tuscan-Romagnolo: 55 km from Bologna and 67 km from Florence, a strategic position to enjoy the artistic culture of the Tuscan and Romagna gastronomy, wines, local products and handmade crafts.
The "vena del gesso"
In the Valley of Santerno is reported the presence of gullies such as the “Vena del Gesso Romagna ", the largest in Europe, long fifteen kilometres wide and large a few, certainly a natural pearl. The southern side of this block is almost vertical and is a spectacular kind of wall that gives the area an almost lunar appearance. West of Santerno, the vein loses the appearance of the wall to disperse in the Valley of Sillaro. To better appreciate the many items of historical and environmental value of the Tossignano valley an operating Center called "I Gessi e il Fiume" provides knowledge of geographical, geological and natural. At Vena del Gesso the natural emergencies focus particularly because of its unique geological, so the area will be shortly protected by a regional park.
